- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup dried lentils, rinsed
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Steps
- 1 Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened.
- 2 Stir in garlic, carrot, and celery, and cook for another 3 minutes.
- 3 Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
